A little tidbit for y'all

It's been a super long time with nothing. I haven't been doing many F/NOTDs lately. I've been a little lazy and also focusing on other things. I don't think I'll fully abandon this blog, but I don't think you can expect regular updates. Sorry to all. For slightly more regular updates on me and my life, feel free to swing by Mary Commentary, my personal blog of almost seven years. Also, I update my twitter several times a week.

This is an NOTD and FOTD from several weeks ago. You can tell because I'm still in my dorm. The eyeshadow is from the ELF Drama quad. The nail polish is Nina Ultra Pro in Tickle Me Pink.

NOTD: Friday April 10 2009

My nails on Friday! I used the following two polishes: Revlon Glimmer Gloss in Strawberry Sizzle and Pure Ice in Oh Baby!

Two coats of each. Love of lovely shimmers. The SS has pink and purple (almost blue) shimmer and the OB! has kind of an iridescent green shimmer.

Up real close so you can see all the shimmers!
They are both sheers, so, of course, you can there is still a very distinct VPL.

Also, I broke my nails today, so they are much shorter now :-(

NOTD: Monday April 6 2009

I was poking through some old polishes when I found this lovely lady. I do wish I had more pix, but all the others were terribly blurry. It's Maybelline Berry Boucle. A real pretty berry shimmery metallic kinda color. Did leave brush marks though. Oh well.

EOTD: Monday April 6 2009

This is titled "EOTD" and not "FOTD" because I forgot to take pix of the rest of my face. Actually, I don't remember what I used for blush. Used Everyday Minerals Sweet Almond Foundation and Abbott's Perk Me Up Concealer, if you're curious. I have pix of the lip products, but not pix of the lips.

The one word that came to mind with this EOTD was "romantic." It's such a soft, frosty, lovely look. But super simple!

Eye products:
Nars Eyeshadow duo in Elisa
Prestige Eyeshadow in Love
Covergirl Outlast liner in Onyx
Maybelline Volum' Express Turbo Boost Mascara in Very Black
Apply the Nars blue shade to the inner 2/3 of the lid. Prestige Love to the outer 1/3 and blend those two together. Apply the Nars purple shade to the highlight and the the center of your lid (on top of the ball of your eyeball, eww gross. I hope you understand what I mean.) Line lashes with the CG liner. Apply Prestiege Love over that on the outer 2/3. Nars blue shade to the inner 1/2 and blend the two together. Apply mascara.

Lip Products:
Nyx round lipstick in Georgia
ELF Super Glossy Lip Shine in Angel

Jesse's Girl Color My World Eyeshadow in Volcanic (all over lid)
Rimmel Colour Rush Eyeshadow in Metallic Pearls (darker color in crease, lighter color as highlight)
NYC Liner in Black (cover with pink and dark gray)

I can't believe how freaking good my skin looked! Dang. I love Everyday Minerals!

NOTD: Friday April 3 2009

This is NYC Love Me Red. It's actually a lovely hot pink with a pinky/purpley flash. Fun fun color. Applies very easy. Opaque in two coats.

NOTD: Wednesday April 1 2009

If there is one thing I love, it's pinks with gold shimmers. (Also peaches and corals with gold shimmers, but this is pink). I love the name of this color: Tutu Tango. It's rather sheer though. This is four coats, and it's near opacity, but there is still a bit of VPL (visible polish line).

NOTD: Tuesday March 31 2009

This is a fun fun fun color! It is Pink Crush by Petites. I got it from my mom over the Christmas Hols. I guess she had bought it but wasn't a fan. It's not really a good color for her anyway. Too bright and flashy. GREAT color for me! It's a bright metallic pink. A little more rosy in person.

ELF Polish Review

I think ELF is a great company. I truly do. I have many ELF products that I use frequently and have even repurchased some of their products. One thing I love is nail polish. So, are the ELF nail polishes any good?

ELF Polish in Fair Pink

Price: 5 out of 5; It's only one dollar!
Packaging: 3/5; The bottle is deceiving. There is only .35 oz. Notice in the photos the large amount of glass on the bottom of the bottle. Also, you should be able to pull off the cap of the handle, but you can't, so you have to work with a big bulky handle.
Performance: 1 out of 5; Seriously. Seriously. It should not take more than 4 coats for opacity unless you're using, say, a glitter. See photos below.

Overall: 1.5 out of 5; I would not purchase again. I might not even take if for free, except I can franken with it.

I saved this by applying two coats of Orly Pearl wisdom over the ELF Fair Pink to give a bit of shimmer.

ELF Polish in Fluorescent Pink

Price and Packaging: same as above
Performance: 2 out of 5; You can kind of see it in the photo below, but this polish has separated. There are streaks of white in the polish. WTF? However, It applies well. 3 coats for opacity.
Overall: 2.5 out of 5; There are better pink polishes out there. This is nothing special. However, it is only $1.
ELF Polish in Pearl
Price and Packaging: same as above
Performance: 4 out of 5; This was opaque in two coats! FINALLY. (Sorry for messy pix).
Overall: 4 out of 5; I would purchase this again. I like the pearly shade, and well, it's only $1!!!

Overall:
I do not generally recommend ELF polishes, but I think with the pearlescent colors, you might find something you like. When I have more cash, I'm going to pick up some more of their pearly colors, and maybe a darker color, and see how those work out.

NOTD Thursday March 26 2009

I was super busy working on homework on Thursday, but my nails were calling! I didn't have a lot of time to do them, so I just swiped one coat NYC Big Apple Red over the coral pink I was wearing. Result: red with a pink flash! Cool!

NOTD: Wednesday March 25 2009

The other day, I went to the Dollar Tree and picked up a couple things, including a pack of three 6mL nail polishes. This is one of them. Its coral with a pink shimmer. Very pretty.
