Franken: Cambodia

After reviewing some ELF polishes, I decided that one of them, Fair Pink, HAD to go. If you saw the review, you understand. So, I decided to toss some pigment into the bottle. I used TKB Tangerine Pop! and Coastal Scents Yellow Oxide.

Results? My latest franken, Cambodia:

Lovely color! That is two coats, in the picture. So, it is much more opaque. I really love this color!!!

FOTD: Thursday March 26 2009

Today was a mineral kind of day, and I'm enjoying. I used mineral makeup for foundation, blusher, and shadow. I'll go into that later. Today's look is a bit more subtle than I usually go for. I concentrated more on getting a good coverage with my concealer and foundation, less on using color. Personally, I think I look hot. A friend of mine has told me that it looks very good.

Face: A self-made mixture of Everydays Mineral Olive Fair and
Coastal Scents Silk Medium 1.2 Foundations (even parts of each);

Lips: Lorac Lipstick in Imagine

Face:
Apply mineral foundation: tap a little foundation into a dish for some sort. Dip brush into powder, swirl it around, tap off excess. Buff into skin (I use CS Deluxe Buffer Brush). Apply small amounts of EM Sunlight Concealer to under eye area (if you have dark areas). Use small amounts until you get desired coverage. You can always add more! Can't always take it off without starting all over. Afterward, pick up just a bit of your foundation and buff it softly over where you concealed. Using kabuki, apply blush to cheeks. (I apply brush after doing eyes).

Eyes:
After priming, apply FM Shell all over lid. Pick up a little of the copper (a little goes a long way with this color). Apply to the crease and blend in. Apply in crease until you reach desired color. I wanted it in the crease and a little in the outer 1/2. Line upper lash line, water line, and outer 1/2 lower lash line. I'm not very good, so I ran an angle brush along the line to soften it some. Pick up some copper with angle brush and line lower lash line. Curl lashes and apply mascara.

Also, I've been using Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator on my lashes recently. I'll update you on how that goes.

Notes about mineral makeup:
Although the market has recently been flooded with this type of foundation, it is important for the consumer to be aware that there are no standards or guidelines for labeling this product. A "mineral makeup" may be all mineral, part mineral - or contain less than 1% mineral as part of the finished formula. Using this logic, practically all makeup could be considered mineral. Additionally, mineral makeup may or may not be USDA organic; the label must specifically mention this, as it is possible to make a mineral product that does not meet USDA guidelines.

FOTD: Saturday March 21 2009

I realize as I'm posting this that I never took a pic of the shadows I used. This is an old pic, but we'll use it. The shadows I used are: the last photo in the yellow section (bottom right). It's a coppery color. #3 for a highlight. The 3rd shadow in the last column, it's a shimmery plum.

Sponge Tip Applicators ONLY!

Emily Noel recently posted a challenge to do an eye makeup look using only sponge tip applicators. I decided to go with something altogether bright and vulgar. Isn't it lovely?

The most difficult part of this challenge was blending the colors together.

Eye products

Dab on a very thin layer of the ELF cream shadow on to lids (I did the chartreuse in the inner 1/2, bronze outer 1/2). Using Coastal Scents 78-pc-palette, select the green labeled "1" and apply that to whole lid. Next, take bronzy color labeled "2" and apply to outer corner and a little ways into the crease. That pale champagne-y color "3" is for highlight. Apply to brow bone. Next, I applied the brown to the outer 1/2 of lower lash line and the green to the inner 3/4. Green liner to waterline, I used NYC waterproof in Teal. So, not quite green, but best I got. Curl your lashes and apply mascara of choice. Since these were more earthy colors, I used CG Lash Blast in Black/brown. A little more natural color. Oh, I also applied some black shadow "4" to my brows after grooming to color them in some. I don't do that everyday, but I had the CS palette out, so I thought, why not.

That whitish lipstick is actually a primer.
I used the Avon Blush in Earthen Rose for contour.


Now for the nails! Take the following ingredients:

And MIX!
3/4 SH Emerald City 1/4 SH Gunmetal. Add 3 drops each of a white and a black creme (I used Rimmel Nail Tip Whitener and Maybelline Onyx Rush). Next, I added a bit of NYX Crystal Glitter and NYX Pink Pearl. Add just a little NP remover to thin it out if necessary.

Now, that's what I did. You probably don't want to. Because if you're smarter than me, you'll realize that a glitter in an opaque polish will look dumb. It looks fairly reptilian. Hmm. That's what I'll call this. "Reptilian." Cool.

Prezzies for Tiffasaurus

One of the prezzies I made for Tiffasaurus was a franken. I used a small bottle that had some Hot Topic topcoat that I got with a HT Fauxnad set. I used some clear topcoat, Grapetini by Icing, Pearl by Elf, and Wild Orchid by WNW (not pictured). I used about 1/4 clear topcoat, 15 drops of Grapetini, 10 drops of WO, and topped it off with the Pearl. But, remember, the bottle I used is really tiny. Grapetini w/o flash:

The result: Heliotrope!

I did my best to make these photos true to life colors. I added a bit of red to the photo. It's pretty close, now.
Here are the blush and shadows that I made for Tiffy. (Wisteria not pictured.) This is the only picture you get of them, because she needs some surprise. :-) I used micas and the matte base from TKB Trading. I used oxides and shimmer from Coastal Scents.

First MAC Experience

On Saturday Nov 15, I popped my MAC cherry. This is a look using Landscape Green Pigment and Primary Yellow Pigment. I purchased samples from All Beauty!
First, I used Two Faced Shadow Insurance on my whole lid. I used Landscape green all across my crease. After that, Primary Yellow went over the whole lid and blend it all together. As you can see in the photo below, I didn't blend it all out so great. Oh well. Next, an NYC pencil (gosh I don't remember what kind of pencil or the color, but it was a tealish color) to line my lids and on my water line. This baby STAYED. I was pleased.
So, this was the same day that I had my free Estee Lauder makeup done. It was the blockbuster weekend or something, I don't know. Anyway, the woman asked me "what kind of eyeshadow is this?" I told her it was MAC. She nodded, "Yeah, I thought so. There's so much pigment" and, she said that it was sticking really really well. Took her a while to get all the eyeshadow off.


I used some MAC again on Friday and today. On Friday, I used Fuschia and Black pigments alone with a shimmery white L'Oreal Perle color to do a smokey pink eye. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures. Today, I used Jardin Aires on my inner half of my lid and Melon on my outer half and blended those together. They blended so so easy. Landscape Green was DIFFICULT to blend!!!! Next was exciting, I decided to use my small pink Taklon Coastal Scents brush that, I think, is marketed as a lip brush, I used it for eyeliner today. I wet the brush with some Visine and used my black shadow from my CS 78-pc palette. OMG! It was amazing! It's so soft, yet it's firm. Not like the one I've been using which is pokey. But this one is densely packed, so, you know, the bristles don't have to be hard to be firm! Wow, I love this brush!!!

Anyway, I've already taken my makeup off. :-( Oh well.

I've been loving my foray into MAC. I really love the pigments. I can't wait until my birthday. I'm going to ask Kevin for some of the Hello Kitty collection (we're doing my birthday late, same time as his, because he is broke, my poor babe. We are poor college students).

And, now, I'm going to bed. GOOD NIGHT!!!!

My Foundation: Wet'n'Wild liquid foundation in Cafe; it's got eucalyptis oil in in which smells awesome. Goes on really awesome with my CS pink stippler.

My Mineral Foundation: Everyday Minerals: and Coastal Scents minerals. EM: I like Golden Fawn; CS: I mix Silk 1.2 Light and Medium. Don't use these too often.

My Powder: CoverGirl Clean Pressed Powder, the original one, in classic beige. I LOVE the fresh CLEAN scent! I will put it on over my foundation or tinted moisturizer. I keep it in my backpack to mattify my face during the day.

My Mascara: Too many to pick from! My go-to mascara is Max Factor's 2000 Calorie. Makes my lashes FAT. haha

My Blush: I LOVE Amuse Shimmer Mineral Blush in Coral and Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in Peach Satin. Those mousse blushes blend so beautifully!!!

My Eyeshadow(s): I love my CS 78 pc palette and LA Colors shimmering loose shadows. I also make my own shadows (video coming soon!)

My Hands: This inexpensive no-name brand antibacterial moisturizing lotion I got at Walmart for $1.50! It's cucumber melon! Mmmmmm. See, I hate cucumbers, but I love cucumber melon scent. Why is that? I guess it doesn't smell too much like cukes.

Three Products to bring on a deserted island: Sunscreen, tinted lip balm (well, if I'm bringing a lip balm, I might as well bring a pretty one!), and a razor.

TKB, Coastal Scents, Grace Body Haul

TKB Trading

I've wanted to do for quite a while is try and make my own makeup. I'm getting a lot of stuff for X-mas, but I thought I'd get some samples and try it out on my own. So, I decided, when I get paid, I'd buy some sample ingredients to experiment with.

Guess what! I got paid!!! From TKB Trading, I got the Pop! Mica Sampler ($9) and the Metallic Collection Sampler ($5.4). I may get a couple things from Coastal Scents, too. They have samplers for the fillers and additives and for the oxides that are about $10 each. I'll post a haul when I get them in and then show some of my experiments.





These are the Coastal Scents oxide and filler sampler sets. I don't have any pix for the TKB stuff I got because their pix are messing up right now. I'll take my own pix and post them when it comes in.
